Experience the history and literature of Scotland with a field study program at UMGC Europe!

Scotland is more than Braveheart, bagpipes, haggis, and whiskey. From the culturally vibrant city of Edinburgh to the rich folk tradition of the Highlands, Scotland is also a country with a history steeped in drama and intrigue. Through classroom lectures/discussions and site visits to museums and monuments in Scotland, this course provides students with an appreciation and understanding of literary culture, focusing on the major movements that shaped Scotland and the world. Topics will include, Scottish Enlightenment, 19th Century fiction, the history of Scotland and its national and imperial contexts, and the gender politics of Mary Queen of Scots.
